We’re proud as punch of our head chef, Marcin Szczodrowski who has been shortlisted for the Chef of the Year in the Irish Hotel Awards. The overall winner will be announced at a gala dinner on 24th October 2022. Chef Marcin is no stranger to awards having won both the Yes Chef Rising Star and Best Chef in Connaught. He’s brought all his fine dining flair to the Ocean Sands and is proudly presenting five-star food on his new menus.
Chef Marcin is a dynamo in the kitchen, he absolutely adores food and is unfailingly enthusiastic about the high quality ingredients available in the west of Ireland. Since he joined us, he has introduced a nine-course Chef’s Signature Tasting Menu which is truly a work of art. It’s available on Thursday nights and is a real treat for lovers of fine food.
Another of his initiatives is Afternoon Tea by the Sea which is a delightful combination of savoury and sweet delicacies served on an old-style tiered tea stand. Guests can add a glass of bubbly to make it even more special. For the Christmas season Afternoon Tea by the Sea will take on a decidedly festive flavour with all the time-honoured favourites on show. A gluten free option is available too, just let us know when you book. On Saturday 10th December there’s a once off Yuletide Afternoon Tea with all the trimmings served with a Bellini cocktail and Christmas music played on the traditional harp. It’s for one day only and it’s booking fast.
Marcin is a perfectionist in terms of food presentation, “You eat with your eyes first”, is his mantra, and he insists that his kitchen team stick to his high standards. He waxes enthusiastic about his team at the Ocean Sands and the ability and enthusiasm they bring to their work.
